Brighton claimed a 1-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, as Yasin Ayari’s first-half goal secured all three points for the visitors in their Premier League clash.
Ayari found the net in the 11th minute, converting from inside the box after receiving a pass from Maxim De Cuyper following a set-piece move.
The victory came just three days after Brighton suffered elimination from the Carabao Cup at the hands of City. The Seagulls lost 4-3 on penalties after both sides played out a 2-2 draw.
Manchester City controlled much of the game, enjoying 62 per cent possession and registering 21 shots against Brighton’s seven. Despite their attacking efforts, Pep Guardiola’s side could not break through the visitors’ defence as Brighton protected their early lead until the final whistle.
Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen earned the Player of the Match award for his impressive display, helping Fabian Hürzeler’s men secure a valuable away victory.
The loss dealt a blow to City, who went into the encounter as Premier League leaders, while Brighton occupied third position on the table.
