Chelsea and Arsenal played out a 1-1 draw in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Gabriel Martinelli had put the Gunners ahead but Pedro Neto restored parity as both sides could not find the winner in the London derby.

Martin Odegaard returned from injury layoff to captain Arsenal, with Bukayo Saka also in the starting line-up.

Both sides exchanged chances in an event-filled first half, with Malo Gusto missing a free header before Martinelli saw his shot saved by Robert Sanchez.

A clever free-kick was finished off by Kai Havertz but the former Chelsea forward’s strike was chalked off by the video assistant referee (VAR).

Odegaard would eventually unlock the Chelsea defence. The Norwegian midfielder found Martinelli in the box and the Brazilian winger finished off with aplomb from a tight angle.

The lead lasted only ten minutes, with Neto slamming a low shot into the net from over 25 yards out for his first ever Chelsea goal.

Chelsea and Arsenal, both on 19 points after 11 matches, moved up to third and fourth positions respectively on the EPL log, the former ahead based on better goals difference.

In other matches, Bruno Fernandes scored a brace as Manchester United defeated Leicester 3-0, while Ipswich Town upset Tottenham away from home with a 2-1 victory for their first league win of the season.

Newcastle United also handed Nottingham Forest their first defeat in five matches with a 3-1 victory.
