EPL: Glasner’s Forest reign starts with late defeat to Leeds

Oliver Glasner’s first match in charge of Nottingham Forest ended in disappointment as his side suffered a late 1-0 defeat to Leeds United at the City Ground.

The two teams largely cancelled each other out during a cagey first half, with James Trafford making an early save to deny Igor Jesus. Forest then came close to breaking the deadlock before half-time when Jair Cunha’s header struck the post.

Forest created more openings after the restart, with Jesus heading wide and Chris Wood missing a good chance after coming off the bench. Leeds also had an opportunity through Tarik Muharemović, but Matz Sels produced an important save.

Just when the match appeared destined to finish goalless, Anton Stach caught Sels out with a clever free-kick at his near post to snatch all three points for Leeds.

The defeat extended an unwanted Forest record, with the last seven managers appointed at the club all losing their opening Premier League match.

Glasner will be particularly frustrated after winning his first game at four of his previous five clubs. He will have an immediate opportunity to respond, with Forest facing Leeds again in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.
