Nottingham Forest and Arsenal settled for a drab 0–0 draw, with the Gunners failing to capitalise on the chance to move nine points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Match Report
Results elsewhere earlier on Saturday added extra motivation for both teams, albeit for very different reasons. Manchester City’s loss to Manchester United and West Ham United’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur shaped the context of this encounter, with Arsenal eyeing greater breathing space at the summit and Forest aiming to further distance themselves from the relegation zone. Sean Dyche’s side showed early intent, fashioning the first opening when Neco Williams teed up Nicolás Domínguez, whose close-range, deflected effort drifted narrowly wide.
Arsenal, however, were slow to find their rhythm in the early stages. Gabriel Martinelli came close to breaking the deadlock but will feel he should have done better after guiding a tight-angled effort just beyond the far post. The league leaders gradually began to assert themselves, though Martín Zubimendi squandered a promising opportunity by miscuing his shot following a clever through ball from Noni Madueke. Forest remained well organised and finished the half on the front foot after a spell of pressure, yet they struggled to carve out any clear chances.
Mikel Arteta sought to change the momentum just before the hour mark, making a triple substitution that included Bukayo Saka. The winger almost made an instant impact, finding Declan Rice, whose awkwardly struck shot bounced before being safely dealt with by Matz Sels. Rice later turned provider, crossing for Saka, but the Forest goalkeeper produced an excellent save to tip the header behind.
Arsenal continued to look the more threatening side, with Mikel Merino narrowly missing contact with an inviting Rice delivery from a set piece. Despite the pressure, Forest refused to buckle and nearly snatched a late winner when Morgan Gibbs-White fired wide from Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross.
In the end, neither team could find a breakthrough and the match ended scoreless. Arsenal remain seven points clear at the top of the table and continue to look strong contenders for a first Premier League title in 22 years, extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches. Forest, meanwhile, will draw confidence from a hard-earned point that keeps them five points above the relegation zone.
