EPL: Taiwo Awoniyi shines again as Nottingham Forest beat Sheffield United
Taiwo Awoniyi, Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, scored the opening goal as Nottingham Forest secured a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in their English Premier League (EPL) match at the City Ground on Friday night.
The win is Forest’s first points of the season.
Awoniyi leapt highest to meet Serge Aurier’s cross to plant a brilliant header into the net just three minutes into the match.
His latest goal means the bulky striker has scored in six consecutive EPL matches, setting the record as the first Nigerian player to achieve the feat.
The 26-year-old is also the first Nottingham Forest player to achieve the feat in 29 years, since Stan Collymore in 1995.
Awoniyi has also scored eight goals in the sequence, as he begins the new season with two goals in two matches in addition to the six scored in the final four matches of last season.
Forest required a late Chris Wood header to secure the win after Sheffield United equalised early in the second half.
