Everton lodge appeal over second points deduction

Everton have lodged a formal appeal against their second points deduction for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, according to BBC Radio Merseyside.

The Toffees had previously seen a 10-point deduction reduced to six upon appeal in February for the period spanning from 2019 to 2022.

The ongoing appeal process is expected to be finalized by May 24, just five days after the conclusion of the final Premier League fixture.

Currently positioned 16th in the table, Sean Dyche’s team holds a two-point advantage over the relegation zone.

Facing Chelsea in a league encounter on Monday (kick-off 20:00 BST), the Blues aim to distance themselves further from the threat of relegation.

The Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) allow clubs to incur losses of up to £105m over three years. An independent commission determined that Everton exceeded this limit by £16.6m for the period ending in 2023.

Additionally, Everton might face an additional points deduction concerning the interest expenses linked to the construction of the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. However, a resolution on this matter is unlikely before the season’s end.
