Everton points appeal scheduled for final week of season

Everton’s appeal against their latest points deduction for violating the Premier League’s financial regulations is set to be heard in the last week of the current season.

The club was penalized two points after an independent commission determined Everton had exceeded the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by £16.6m for the three-year period up to 2022-23.

Premier League clubs are allowed a £105m loss over three years, and Everton had previously had a 10-point deduction reduced to six points on appeal for the period ending 2021-22.

The upcoming appeal hearing is scheduled for the week starting May 13, with the appeals panel planning to deliver a decision before Everton’s final match against Arsenal on May 19.

Despite the points deductions, Sean Dyche’s team ensured their Premier League survival with a 1-0 victory over Brentford last Saturday.

Dyche revels in Toffees positivity

Looking ahead, Everton, now secure in their top-flight status after three wins in six days, will next play against Luton, who are fighting relegation, on Friday (kick-off 20:00 BST).

Asked about their next three games being more relaxed than last season when they escaped relegation on the final day, boss Dyche said: “We’re finding that balance.

“The feel-good factor has obviously affected everyone and we want to use that to our advantage. The freedom comes back into your play because our objective is achieved.

“It’s about using all the things we’ve learned in these last three games and delivering performances.

“I am so thankful to the staff and players for all of their efforts and of course the fans, who played their part as well.

“A very big week – not just in the results but in the feel of the situation and how quickly it changes from a real negative to a real heavy positive.”
