Former England midfielder Dele Alli has signed with Italian Serie A side Como on an initial 18-month deal, with an option for an additional season based on appearances.
The 28-year-old has been training with the club over the past month after leaving Everton in June. During his time without a team, Alli continued training under Everton manager Sean Dyche before joining Como on trial.
The former Tottenham and MK Dons player last appeared in a competitive match in February 2023 while on loan at Turkish club Besiktas.
“The club believes in Dele’s potential and is committed to helping him rediscover his best form,” said Como head coach Cesc Fabregas.
“His experience and leadership qualities will undoubtedly benefit the squad.”
In a candid interview with Gary Neville in July 2023, Alli opened up about his struggles, including being sexually abused at the age of six, dealing drugs at eight, and battling alcohol and sleeping pill dependency.
He expressed a strong determination to return to football after addressing his personal challenges.
Como emphasized their commitment to creating a supportive environment for Alli, stating, “There are no immediate performance expectations.
The focus is on his gradual integration, and we believe he can make a significant impact both on the pitch and as a mentor to our young talents.”
Como returned to Serie A last summer after nearly 50 years. The club also boasts notable minority investors, including former Arsenal stars Cesc Fabregas and Thierry Henry.
