Former Renault Formula 1 boss and previous co-owner of Queens Park Rangers, Flavio Briatore, has undergone heart surgery to extract a benign tumor.
The 73-year-old Italian announced on Instagram that he has been released from the hospital in Milan after undergoing the procedure.
Briatore expressed that the surgery had been “completely successful.”
“Following a routine check-up I underwent heart surgery because I had a benign mass which was removed with a minimal invasive procedure,” he said.
During his tenure as managing director of Benetton, businessman Briatore witnessed Michael Schumacher clinch the F1 drivers’ championship in both 1994 and 1995.
Similarly, he oversaw Renault’s operations when Fernando Alonso secured consecutive titles in 2005 and 2006, though his tenure ended amidst the ‘Crashgate’ scandal.
Since then, Briatore has not held any official positions in F1 but has been visible at various grands prix in recent years.
