Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is in discussions with Italian club Fiorentina about a possible return to football.
De Gea, 33, was sidelined last season after his contract with United expired. In recent months, he has shared training footage, including some taken at National League club Altrincham, near his home in northwest England.
His latest post on June 25 included the words “ready to rock.”
Despite widespread speculation, including potential moves to Major League Soccer in the United States, no decision has been announced regarding his next club.
Sources indicate that no agreement has been reached with Fiorentina.
The Spaniard made 545 appearances for Manchester United over 13 years and was part of the team that won the 2012-13 Premier League title.
During his tenure at Old Trafford, he also won two League Cups, one FA Cup, and the Europa League.
Serie A side Fiorentina, owned by outspoken businessman Rocco Commisso, who moved to the USA from Italy as a child, are in search of major silverware.
The club last won a significant trophy in 2001 when they lifted the Coppa Italia. They have been runners-up in the last two UEFA Conference League finals and are in the play-off round of the competition again this season.
