Ex-Marine denies Liverpool parade crash

A British man accused of driving into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League title win last May has pleaded not guilty to 31 offences.

Paul Doyle, 53, a former Royal Marine from Croxteth, appeared by video link from prison at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday. He denied charges linked to 29 victims aged between six months and 77 years.

Thousands of supporters had packed the streets on 26 May to mark Liverpool’s record-equalling 20th top-flight title when the celebrations turned to chaos.

Merseyside Police reported that 134 people were injured after Doyle allegedly drove into the crowds.

He faces charges of dangerous driving, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and affray.

The court has set a provisional trial date for 24 November, with proceedings expected to last three to four weeks.
