Aston Villa’s set-piece coach, Austin MacPhee, has joined Roberto Martinez’s coaching team with the Portugal national team.
The 45-year-old Scot, who previously served as assistant to Scotland manager Steve Clarke for three years, stepped down from that role in September 2024 due to his father’s illness.
MacPhee, who has also worked with Northern Ireland, Hearts, and FC Midtjylland, now makes a return to international football.
He replaces Anthony Barry, who recently joined England’s setup as Thomas Tuchel’s assistant.
MacPhee will retain his position at Aston Villa, collaborating with Martinez’s Portugal squad during international breaks.
Portugal’s upcoming fixture is against Denmark in the Nations League quarter-finals next month.
