Ex-Super Falcons forward criticizes Malawian referee for disallowing Lookman’s goal against Libya

A former forward for the Super Falcons, Desire Oparanozie, has taken issue with Malawian referee Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga for not allowing Ademola Lookman, a forward for the Super Eagles, to score against Libya.

In a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, or AFCON, qualifier held on Friday night at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria defeated Libya 1-0 with Lookman on the field.

In the 83rd minute, the Atalanta star swapped one-two passes with Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan and appeared to have given Nigeria the lead with a well-executed goal.

Nkhakananga, however, disallowed Lookman’s goal for offside on the advise of his fellow countryman, assistant referee Clemence Kanduku.

A few minutes later, the Super Eagles defeated the North Africans with a goal from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

Reacting, Oparanozie voiced her displeasure with the CAF official for disallowing Lookman’s goal, branding it as poor officiating.

“No VAR in Uyo? There’s no dent on Lookman’s goal,” Oparanozie wrote on X.

“Poor officiating,” she added.
