The Super Falcons have moved up one place and are now 38th in the world in the latest FIFA Women’s World Football Ranking released by the football governing body, on Friday.

It is the first ranking for the women in 2020 and the African champions moved a spot up from their 39th position in December 2019 despite their inactivity since playing a 2020 Olympics qualifier in October 2019.

In the ranking for the month of March, Nigeria maintained their previous points of 1,614 from December, which positioned them as the best female team in Africa.

Nigeria ranked first in the continent ahead of Cameroon, South Africa, Ghana and Ivory Coast, who are second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The latest ranking had Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia, Morocco, Mali and Algeria completing the top 10 positions in Africa.

Due to their busy start to the first quarter of 2020, Zambia are one of the biggest climbers in the ranking, moving six places up to 100th in the world and 12th in Africa after a maiden Olympic qualification.

Champions USA and Germany retained the top two spots in the world rankings, while France moved a place up to occupy the third position while The Netherlands and Sweden sit fourth and fifth on the log.

England, Australia, Brazil, Canada and Korea DPR complete the top 10.

Gambia are the newest ranked team on the list, after being ranked 113th in the world and 17th best women’s football playing nation in Africa.
