The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has restated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the Super Eagles as they strive to secure their fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.

The minister conveyed this message during a press briefing at Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin on Saturday.

The reassurance follows the release of a 25-man list by Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro on Friday for the upcoming tournament.

Enoh emphasized that the presidency is keen on the team’s success and is committed to providing all necessary support for a triumphant outing.

“We are hoping that we are going to make the best of it. We have the full backing of the president,” he said.

The minister emphasized the national pride and honor that would accompany the Super Eagles securing their fourth AFCON title, marking a decade since their last triumph in South Africa.

He stated that the ministry, in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is diligently working to ensure thorough planning and execution for a successful tournament.

“With a resounding desire for success and the unwavering support of the Presidency, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up to showcase their prowess and determination on the continental stage.

“The Ministry of Sports Development, in close coordination with the NFF, is dedicated to facilitating an environment conducive to the team’s success,” he explained.

NAN reports that the NFF recently launched the “Let’s do it again’ campaign meant to propel the Super Eagles to its long-awaited 4th AFCON title.”

The team, champions three times (in 1980, 1994, and 2013), have been placed in Group A alongside host nation Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea for the continental showpiece.
The tournament, featuring 24 nations, will commence on January 13 and conclude on February 11, 2024, taking place in six venues across Cote d’Ivoire.
