FIFA President Gianni Infantino has reportedly requested a significant change regarding the schedule for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to be held in Morocco.

The recently concluded 2023 iteration of the tournament in Ivory Coast garnered widespread praise.

It not only witnessed the establishment of numerous on-field records but also proved to be a commercial triumph, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirming record viewership from across the globe.

During the winners’ ceremony, Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, was presented with the host country’s flag for the 35th edition, slated to be held in Morocco in 2025.

Lekjaa was observed engaging in conversation with FIFA President Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe on the sidelines.

According to reports from Kooora, it was during this exchange that Infantino suggested two potential options for the upcoming AFCON: hosting it in March 2025 or postponing it to January 2026.

It is further indicated that Infantino is eager for a prompt decision to facilitate adjustments to football schedules if necessary and to engage in discussions with other international stakeholders regarding the way forward.
