Morocco has surpassed Senegal to become the best African team in the latest FIFA Ranking for 2022, following their impressive performance and exploits at the recently concluded 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Morocco was ranked 22nd in the world and second in Africa in November, but they have now risen 11 places to 11th in the world following their outstanding performance at the World Cup.
The Atlas Lions reached the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar, becoming the first and only African nation to do so in the tournament’s history.
En route to the semi-finals of the biggest football event in the World, the Atlas Lions beat Spain in the Round of 16 and also saw off Portugal in the quarter-finals.
Morocco finished top of their Group after beating, Portugal Belgium and Canada and drawing with Croatia.
Walid Regragui’s side ended the tournament with a fourth-place finish and lost narrowly to 2018 finalist Croatia in the third-place playoff.
