The Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) has commended the selection of Finidi George as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, considering it a wise decision.

Following the approval of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board, George was appointed as the Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Football Team on Monday, following the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee.

In a statement issued by PFAN’s General Secretary, Emmanuel Babayaro, and endorsed by its President, Tijani Babangida, the organization lauded the NFF’s decision as highly favorable.

As the players’ union in Nigeria, PFAN extended congratulations to George on his new role, expressing faith in his technical expertise acquired from his illustrious career at Ajax Amsterdam and Real Betis. They believe George will excel in leading the Super Eagles, bringing joy to Nigerians once more.

“Finidi George is a great and worthy choice for the exalted Super Eagles coaching job.

“As a former player and member of PFAN, we want to reiterate that we are solidly behind him and would give him every assistance necessary for him to do his job.

PFAN President Tijani Babangida, a former Ajax Amsterdam winger, emphasized the importance of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) providing support to Finidi George to ensure his success.

George’s primary responsibility will be to lead the Super Eagles in their quest for victory in two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic, to be held in Uyo and Abidjan respectively.

These matches are critical as the Super Eagles currently find themselves in third place in Group C of the African qualifying campaign, trailing behind Rwanda and South Africa.
