The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Finidi George, an experienced coach from Enyimba, as the interim coach.

Former assistant coach Finidi George will lead the Super Eagles in their upcoming friendlies against Ghana and Mali, marking a significant fixture known as the Jollof Derby on Friday, March 22nd, at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco. Following this, Nigeria will face Mali at the same venue on Tuesday, March 26th.

As the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) continues its search for a permanent head coach, the experienced Enyimba coach steps in as an interim solution.

Before his debut as the Super Eagles’ interim coach, here are five key points to note about the new Super Eagles gaffer.

Finidi George is a prominent figure in Nigerian football, having achieved considerable success during his time with the Super Eagles.

Playing as a winger, he participated in various international competitions for Nigeria, including the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

European Football Experience

Finidi George accumulated invaluable experience while competing in elite European leagues, particularly during his stints with Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Real Betis in Spain.

His tenure in Europe provided him with exposure to top-tier football and allowed him to refine his skills as a player.

Coaching Career

After retiring from professional football, Finidi George made the transition to coaching. He has held various coaching positions, including serving as an assistant coach under Jose Peseiro.

His coaching background and deep understanding of the game make him a suitable candidate for the interim coaching role, and he hopes to secure the position permanently.

Managerial Role at Enyimba

Presently, Finidi serves as the Chief coach of one of Nigeria’s prominent football clubs, Enyimba FC.

His time at Enyimba has equipped him with firsthand experience in team management and navigating the intricacies of football administration.

Under his leadership, Enyimba clinched their ninth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title last season.

Temporary Appointment

Following the departure of Jose Peseiro, Finidi George has been appointed as the interim coach of the Super Eagles. With his extensive experience both as a player and a coach, George is anticipated to steer the team in the right direction.
