Frankfurt’s Marmoush scores late to deny Bayern Munich win
Omar Marmoush scored in the dying moments of stoppage time, securing a dramatic 3-3 draw for Eintracht Frankfurt against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
Defender Kim Min-jae got Bayern off to an ideal start by opening the scoring from close range.
Marmoush continued his impressive scoring streak, netting for the fifth consecutive league match with a drilled shot that slipped under the body of Manuel Neuer to equalize.
The Egypt forward then assisted Frankfurt’s second goal, using his strength and speed to evade Dayot Upamecano before setting up Hugo Ekitike for a finish.
However, that lead lasted only three minutes, as Upamecano redeemed himself by reacting quickly to convert a loose ball from close range.
Bayern, the highest-scoring team in the German top flight, regained the lead with a superb curling shot from former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
Although Harry Kane failed to score for a third straight game, the England captain provided Olise with an assist, marking his fifth of the season, the most by any player in the Bundesliga this term.
Kane’s afternoon ended frustratingly when he left the field in the 72nd minute after requiring treatment due to a clash with Frankfurt defender Tuta.
As the match entered six minutes of stoppage time, it seemed Bayern were on course to rebound from their defeat against Aston Villa in the Champions League, which marked their first loss under new manager Vincent Kompany.
However, Marmoush extended his lead at the top of the Bundesliga scoring charts, bringing his tally to eight goals, as he sprinted past the Bayern defense and curled the ball into the far corner.
The draw means Bayern have gone three games without a win in all competitions, suffering one loss and two draws, signaling the end of Kompany’s initial honeymoon period.
Despite this, they remain atop the table, with RB Leipzig, who defeated Heidenheim earlier in the day, trailing them in second place on goal difference.
Frankfurt, aiming to move to the top for the first time since 1999, now sits third after extending their unbeaten streak to five matches.
