Despite an 8,000-mile journey, Golden Lion from Martinique suffers a 12-0 defeat against Lille in the French Cup.

The team hailing from the petite Caribbean island earned the opportunity to participate in the competition due to the inclusion of sides from various French overseas territories.

Eager to create an upset in the round of 64 tie against Ligue 1 giants Lille, they made the journey to Lille with high hopes.

However, the hosts emerged as comfortable winners, with two players securing hat-tricks.

Jonathan David, a striker from Canada, and Edon Zhegrova contributed to half of Lille’s twelve goals, while Yusuf Yazici and Hakon Arnar Haraldsson each netted twice.

Tiago Santos and Amine Messoussa also found the net in a game where Lille had 37 shots on goal, in stark contrast to Golden Lion’s solitary attempt.
