For the first time in history, the FIFA World Cup will feature 48 teams in its 2026 edition, expanding from the 32-team format that has been in place since 1998.

This groundbreaking tournament will bring together more international teams than ever before, with the United States, Canada, and Mexico set to co-host what is expected to be an exhilarating global spectacle.

Expanded Slot Allocation

FIFA’s new structure guarantees the following slots for each region:

  • UEFA (Europe): 16 slots
  • CAF (Africa): 9 slots
  • AFC (Asia): 8 slots
  • CONMEBOL (South America): 6 slots
  • CONCACAF (North & Central America): 6 slots
  • OFC (Oceania): 1 slot (a first in history)

The remaining two slots will be decided through intercontinental playoffs.

Countries That Have Qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

  • Canada
