Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 Men’s Bcallon d’Or award.
The 26-year-old Atalanta player was included in a shortlist of 30 players revealed by France Football on Wednesday. Lookman earned the nomination following an outstanding season in which he helped Atalanta win their first-ever European trophy, scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
Lookman netted 17 goals and provided 11 assists for Atalanta last season. He was also a key figure in the Super Eagles’ journey to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire earlier this year, scoring twice as Nigeria finished as runners-up after a 2-1 loss to the hosts.
This year’s Ballon d’Or nominations are heavily influenced by Spain’s Euro 2024-winning squad and Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League victory. Some standout nominees include Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappé.
