Garnacho sorry for liking critical posts – Ten Hag
Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho has expressed his apologies to Erik ten Hag for inadvertently endorsing social media posts that were critical of the manager’s decision to substitute him during the match against Bournemouth.
The 19-year-old winger was substituted at half-time in the 2-2 draw on April 13th.
Following the incident, he promptly unliked the posts, and Manager Ten Hag stated that they are putting the incident behind them.
“Alejandro is a young player, he has to learn a lot,” said Ten Hag. “He apologised for it and after that we move on.”
United, who have not won in four Premier League matches, face Coventry in an FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.
The social media posts on X criticised Ten Hag’s handling of Garnacho, with one saying that he “had a poor first half, but taking him off at half-time and holding him up as the problem is a joke”.
This isn’t the first time social media has caused problems for Ten Hag. In September 2023, Jadon Sancho posted on X that he was being unfairly blamed after being dropped by the manager.
Ten Hag stated that Sancho, now on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund, was benched due to poor performances in training, a claim the winger disputed as “totally untrue.”
This disagreement strained their relationship before Sancho’s loan move. However, Ten Hag commended the 24-year-old for his contributions in Dortmund’s victory over Atletico Madrid, which secured their place in the Champions League semi-finals.
“I follow international football and follow the players on loan at other clubs,” said Ten Hag.
“It was a fantastic game, and a great performance from Dortmund. For Jadon it’s good news, he made his contribution to the result.
“No [nothing has changed about his future], but we know Jadon Sancho is a fantastic football player, so that is not a surprise for us, that is not the issue.”
