Ghana have reportedly made contact with Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah over a possible switch of his international allegiance from England.
According to Standard Sport, the 27-year-old is considering the approach but has not yet made a final decision on whether to commit his international future to Ghana, the country of his parents’ birth.
Born in Lewisham, south London, to Ghanaian parents, Nketiah came through England’s youth teams and became the country’s all-time leading scorer at Under-21 level.
He has one senior cap for England, earned in October 2023 when he came on for Ollie Watkins in the 73rd minute of a 1-0 friendly victory over Australia at Wembley.
His limited senior involvement means he remains eligible to change his international allegiance under FIFA rules, subject to the relevant conditions.
Ghana are hoping to strengthen their squad with the addition of the Palace forward, alongside players such as Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo and Coventry City midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.
Nketiah joined Crystal Palace after leaving Arsenal and has featured from the start in all three of the club’s Premier League matches this season under new manager Pierre Sage.
His impressive start comes after an injury-disrupted campaign last season.
Standard Sport reports that Ghana have retained their interest in the striker for some time and have renewed their efforts to persuade him to represent the Black Stars.
