Greek-Nigerian NBA star, Giannis buys own jersey at Lagos market
In a viral video, Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greek-Nigerian professional basketball player, is observed purchasing a counterfeit version of his jersey at Balogun Market in Lagos during his visit to Nigeria in 2023.
This incident is featured in a recently released WhatsApp short documentary titled “Ugo: A Homecoming Story,” which gained widespread attention on Wednesday.
The footage showcases the moment Giannis, accompanied by his entourage, discovered his fake jersey at Balogun market and engaged in negotiations for its purchase.
Exiting his car, Giannis bargained for the jersey with the trader, who was unaware of his identity.Giannis recalled, “The guy giving me the jersey had no idea who I was.
“He knew Giannis Antetokounmpo but didn’t recognise it was me he was selling the jersey to. That was an even crazier experience.”
In the year 2023, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was raised in Greece, embarked on his inaugural visit to Nigeria, accompanied by his mother, Veronica Antetokounmpo.
