Guehi to stay at Crystal Palace despite Newcastle pursuit

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that England defender Marc Guehi will remain at the club on deadline day.

Newcastle had four offers for the 24-year-old rejected, with the latest bid reaching up to £65 million.

Guehi, who has two years remaining on his contract, will not be sold, as Glasner was hesitant to lose another defender following the sale of Joachim Andersen to Fulham for approximately £30 million.

“It was never really in doubt,” said Glasner. “Congratulations to Crystal Palace, to the chairman, to the owners, that they didn’t give in.

“Especially after the transfer of Joachim Andersen, it was very important that Marc stays.

“Also thank you to Marc. We were always close and talking a lot. All of the rumours didn’t influence his performance, his mood, his professionalism.

“He always told me he is not pushing to leave Crystal Palace and for me that is the most important thing.”
