Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has downplayed comparisons between his scoring record and those of football greats Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, emphasizing that his main focus is on developing his own game.

In a post shared on X by Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday, the Norwegian striker was quoted as saying, “No, not at all! No one can get close to Ronaldo and Messi, so no…”

“I am just Erling, a Norwegian guy scoring goals. That won’t change.”

His comments come amid growing debate over whether the prolific striker could one day reach or surpass the historic goal tallies of Ronaldo and Messi, who have scored over 800 career goals each.

Since joining Manchester City, Haaland has shattered several Premier League and Champions League records, earning inevitable comparisons to the legendary duo. However, the 24-year-old insists he is still far from their level.

Haaland, who is currently the highest goal scorer in the current Premier League campaign with 13 goals, will be looking to help his side when Manchester City welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad in the Champions League.
