Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has agreed to a new long-term contract with the club, extending his stay at the Etihad until 2034.

The Norwegian forward, who joined City from Dortmund in 2022, has netted 111 goals in 126 appearances for the club.

His previous contract, which reportedly contained a release clause, was set to run until 2027.

Under the terms of his new deal, Haaland will remain at City until his 34th birthday, provided he stays with the club for the full nine-and-a-half years.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” said Haaland.

“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

“I also want to thank [manager] Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my team-mates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years.”

Txiki Begiristain, Manchester City’s director of football, commented, “The length of his [Haaland’s] contract reflects our strong commitment to him as a player and his deep affection for the club.”

Haaland’s contract renewal follows just two months after Pep Guardiola agreed to a two-year extension of his own.

While some have speculated that Haaland’s future at City is tied to Guardiola’s, the striker’s decision to sign such a long-term deal puts that theory to rest.

Haaland’s new contract, the longest in Premier League history, surpasses the nine-year deal signed by Cole Palmer with Chelsea last August.

Since joining from Germany, Haaland has helped City secure two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, a Champions League trophy, and a Super Cup.

The Norwegian forward, son of former City midfielder Alf-Inge Haaland, has scored 21 goals in 28 appearances for City this season.

As defending champions, City currently sit 12 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, having played one more match than the Reds.

Haaland’s contract renewal comes amid the club’s ongoing disciplinary case with the Premier League, which could result in significant sanctions if the club is found guilty. Manchester City has denied the 115 charges brought against them.
