Harry Kane reveals Real Madrid midfielder mind games before penalty

Harry Kane has revealed Jude Bellingham said “you’re going to go left of the keeper” as the Real Madrid midfielder tried to put off his England team-mate before the Bayern Munich forward took his penalty in the Champions League semi-final.

Bellingham appeared to whisper something to Kane as the Bayern striker prepared to take a penalty in the 57th minute of the first leg.

Despite this, the England captain successfully placed his penalty to the right of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, giving Bayern a 2-1 lead at the Allianz Arena. Vinicius Jr later equalized with a penalty of his own, resulting in a draw.

Kane later mentioned that he didn’t hear what Bellingham said during the game but that the 20-year-old spoke to him about it after the match.

“In the moment, I didn’t know what he said but I spoke to him after and he said: ‘I know you’re going to go left of the keeper’.

“On the pitch, I knew he was there but I didn’t know what he said. But I went left anyway.

“It was nice for me because I saw the keeper go a little bit early and I put it away.”

Kane’s successful penalty marked his 43rd goal in 43 matches across all competitions this season, aiding Bayern’s quest to end the season strongly. The Champions League remains the only trophy for which they are still competing.

Kane transferred from Tottenham to Bayern last summer for an initial £86m, aiming to secure trophies with the 11-time Bundesliga winners.

However, Bayer Leverkusen has already ended Bayern’s streak of league titles, and Thomas Tuchel’s team was eliminated from the German Cup in the second round by the third-tier team Saarbrucken.

The first leg concluded with the matchup evenly poised, setting the stage for a decisive return leg at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, which will determine who advances to the final on June 1st at Wembley.
