Harry Kane sets sights on Ronaldo, Messi as he joins Bayern Munich
After weeks of speculation, Harry Kane‘s move to Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur was finally completed two weeks ago in a deal worth £100 million, a record for both clubs.
Kane was a standout player for Tottenham in recent seasons, becoming one of the best strikers in the world. He recently expressed his desire to match the longevity of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite winning the Premier League Golden Boot three times, Kane struggled to win trophies with Tottenham. Last season, he scored 30 goals in the Premier League, but Tottenham finished eighth and have not won a trophy since 2008.
At Bayern Munich, Kane has a realistic chance of winning trophies. The German giants have won 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles, and they are always in contention for the Champions League and other major trophies.
Kane had a few injury-plagued seasons, but he seems to have gotten past that. If he wants to be as successful as Ronaldo and Messi, he’ll need to stay healthy.
In a recent interview, Kane said he wants to play at the top level for the next few years.
“I know that when you turn 30 as a footballer, people somehow always have the end in the back of their minds. But I would like to play at the top level for another seven or eight years.”
He said that he is inspired by Ronaldo and Messi, who have shown that it is possible to play at a high level well into your 30s.
“The example of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, or Lewandowski shows that it is possible to achieve top performances when you are a footballer. The decision for FC Bayern was not made because of time pressure, but out of conviction.”
Ronaldo and Messi are still playing at an elite level, even though they are in their late 30s. They have been playing at the top level for over 20 years, and they have set some incredible records. Can Kane follow in their footsteps and play at a high level for another eight years?
Kane is a prolific goalscorer, and he has already scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Spurs.
