Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night, moving closer to the English Premier League (EPL) title.

Kai Havertz netted the decisive goal in the first half to keep Mikel Arteta’s side firmly on course in the closing stages of the title race.

Burnley, who have already been relegated from the EPL, aimed to frustrate the hosts, with Declan Rice seeing a free kick saved and Leandro Trossard striking the post with a 20-yard attempt.

Hannibal Mejbri fired wide, while appeals for a penalty after a challenge on Bukayo Saka were turned down, before the winger eventually delivered the assist for the breakthrough in the 37th minute. His corner found Havertz, who rose highest to head Arsenal into a 1-0 lead at half-time.

The win took Arsenal to 82 points from 37 matches, putting them five points ahead of Manchester City, who face Bournemouth on Tuesday. The Gunners could be crowned champions if Pep Guardiola’s side drop points, or if they match City’s result in their final game away at Crystal Palace.
