The House of Representatives has extended congratulations to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for securing the silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, marking their fifth time achieving this accomplishment.
On Monday, Akin Rotimi (APC-Ekiti State), the spokesperson for the House, conveyed in a statement that the legislators commend the players and coaching staff for their spirited performance in Cote d’Ivoire.
He expressed the lawmakers’ specific delight with the outstanding performance of team captain William Ekong, who was honored as the ‘Man of the Competition’.
“The Super Eagles, based on their performance at the tournament, deserved victory but narrowly lost the AFCON trophy.
“Nevertheless, they have proven that Nigeria remains the giant of Africa in sport and other endeavours.
“During the tournament, Nigerians showed that we are one great nation. Nigerians are proud of you,” the Speaker told the Super Eagles at the end of the game,” he said.
Rotimi emphasized that the Super Eagles’ accomplishment would serve as a source of inspiration not only for the vast array of sports talents across the nation but also for fellow citizens in various fields to contribute more to their homeland.
He highlighted that the team’s exceptional performance at the tournament has further unified the country, praising the Super Eagles for their impressive display throughout the matches.
