Thierry Henry shared a light-hearted moment with Victor Osimhen as the pair exchanged greetings in Nigerian Pidgin English during a live television interview.
The exchange occurred while Henry, serving as a pundit on CBS, interviewed Osimhen after Galatasaray’s dramatic 7–5 aggregate triumph over Juventus in the UEFA Champions League knockout play-offs on Wednesday.
Osimhen netted one of the decisive extra-time goals that secured the Turkish side’s first second-round appearance in the competition in 12 years. Galatasaray had taken a commanding 5–2 lead in the first leg, but a less convincing display in the return fixture allowed Juventus to force extra time after scoring three goals. The Istanbul club eventually sealed qualification with two additional goals in the extended period.
During the post-match interview, Henry surprised viewers by opening the conversation in Pidgin before posing his questions.
“Victor, this is Thierry. First and foremost, how bodi? Bodi dey?” Henry asked.
Osimhen responded with a smile, replying, “Yeah, bodi dey fine.”
The discussion then shifted to analysis of the encounter.
Henry previously played alongside Nwankwo Kanu at Arsenal F.C. between 1999 and 2004. He has also often praised Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha, whom he faced several times in the Premier League.
In 2017, Henry visited Lagos, where he was honoured with the traditional title of “Igwe of football”.
