I’m 100% ready for return to Super Eagles – Maduka Okoye

Nigeria’s Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, has revealed his preparedness to rejoin the national team setup following a period of self-imposed absence.

Okoye has distanced himself from the team due to social media criticism following his performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. A mistake in the second half led to Nigeria’s 1-0 defeat to Tunisia in the second round.

Currently playing for Udinese in Serie A and experiencing a resurgence in form, Okoye feels it’s the right moment to rejoin Nigeria’s national team and wear the green and white jersey again.

“I am very well now. I feel 100%. The national team is an important thing for me and I want to return as soon as possible. It was hard watching the AFCON from home, but this is football.” Okoye said as per OwnGoal Nigeria.

Since Vincent Enyeama retired, the goalkeeping position has been a source of worry for Nigerian football enthusiasts. However, Stanley Nwabali’s impressive performance in Cote d’Ivoire, Okoye’s resurgence in form, and the presence of Arthur Okonkwo have created fierce competition for the number one spot in the national team. This development is eagerly anticipated by Nigerians.
