Injured England captain Kane returns to Bayern

England captain Harry Kane will be absent from Tuesday’s friendly against Belgium due to an ankle injury and has headed back to his club side, Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old, who is England’s all-time top goalscorer, missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Brazil at Wembley.

“Harry Kane won’t be fit for Tuesday so he will go back to his club,” confirmed boss Gareth Southgate after the loss.

The Three Lions are waiting for an injury update on right-back Kyle Walker, who came off in the first half.

“We don’t know,” said Southgate. “He hasn’t had many injuries and he isn’t sure if it is just tightness or if it’s a little bit more than that.

“We’ll know in the next 24, 36 hours.”

The Manchester City defender was replaced by Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa after 20 minutes, soon after clearing a Vinicius Jr shot off the line.

On the two midfielders who missed the Brazil game through injury, Southgate added: “Cole Palmer and Jordan Henderson trained this morning, but we have to see how they come through that next phase.”
