Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi will miss the Club World Cup in the United States due to being unable to leave Tehran amidst escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

Taremi was set to travel on Saturday to join his Inter teammates in Los Angeles but was unable to do so after all flights from Iranian airports were grounded following recent military confrontations between the two nations.

The 32-year-old Iran international had recently scored in Iran’s World Cup qualifying victory over North Korea in Tehran on Tuesday.

Due to the travel disruption, Taremi is ruled out of Inter’s opening match against Monterrey on Wednesday. Italian media also suggest he is unlikely to participate in the tournament, even if Iranian airspace reopens.

Taremi joined Inter Milan from Porto last year.
