Ivan Toney keen to repay Brentford for support during ban

Brentford’s striker, Ivan Toney, expresses his desire to reciprocate the support from manager Thomas Frank and the club during his eight-month suspension.

In May, England international Toney received a suspension for 232 violations of Football Association betting rules.

The 27-year-old may make his comeback at home against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on 20 January.

“Thomas Frank has been nothing but the biggest help I could have asked for,” Toney told Sky Sports.

“The whole club has – from putting extra sessions on for me, from taking their time out to put a session on and go outside when it’s raining, when they’re not supposed to be in.

“I have a lot to repay them and I can’t wait to try and do that.

“The fans were behind me. Even when I wasn’t at their games, they were singing my name.

“A friend of mine sent me a video of the fans singing my name. I got goosebumps to know that they’re still behind me, even though I’m not there.”

Toney netted 20 league goals in the previous season, contributing to Brentford’s ninth-place finish.

Presently, the team is experiencing a five-game losing streak, placing them at 16th in the table.

Despite speculation linking Toney to Arsenal or Chelsea, Manager Thomas Frank has stated that only an “unbelievable” offer would prompt Brentford to consider selling him.

Recently, Toney showcased his skills by playing 75 minutes for Brentford’s B team against Southampton Under-23s on Saturday, securing a hat-trick in their 5-1 victory.
