Championship side Burnley have signed former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy on a one-year contract as they look to turn around their difficult start to the season.
The 39-year-old forward became a free agent after leaving Italian club Cremonese, who were relegated from Serie A at the end of last season.
Vardy arrives at Turf Moor with Burnley struggling at the bottom of the Championship table. The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season and have failed to record a victory in their first five league matches of the new campaign.
Vardy said Burnley’s rich football tradition and passionate supporters played a part in his decision to join the club, adding that he was eager to begin playing and help the team improve its fortunes.
The veteran striker famously rose through the non-league ranks before becoming a key figure in Leicester City’s remarkable Premier League title-winning campaign in 2016.
He later helped Leicester win the FA Cup in 2021 and earned 26 international appearances for England.
Vardy ended his 13-year association with Leicester following the club’s Premier League relegation in 2025. He subsequently moved to Cremonese, where he scored seven goals in 29 appearances last season.
