Jose Mourinho sacked as Roma manager

Roma has dismissed Jose Mourinho from his role as manager, with the club currently positioned in ninth place in Serie A.

In May 2021, the 60-year-old Portuguese manager assumed control, guiding Roma to the Europa Conference League title a year later and the Europa League final in 2023.

However, the team currently trails by five points for the last Champions League qualifying position in Serie A, and last week, they were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by their city rivals Lazio.

Owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin thanked Mourinho “for the passion and commitment he has shown” as boss.

“We will always have great memories of his stewardship, but we believe that, in the best interests of the club, immediate change is necessary,” they added in a statement.

Following the defeat to Lazio in the cup, Mourinho drew a parallel between himself and Harry Potter, implying that his influence was “heightening expectations” regarding Roma’s potential accomplishments.

This outcome was succeeded by a 3-1 league loss to AC Milan on Sunday, leaving Roma trailing five points behind Fiorentina, who currently hold the fourth position.
