Almost six months after the death of Diogo Jota, his two sons, Dinis and Duarte, are set to appear at Anfield as ball boys ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, in a symbolic tribute organised by the club to honour the late forward.
As reported, Liverpool are planning an emotional moment before Saturday’s fixture at Anfield, where the Reds will host Wolves in the 18th round of the league. Prior to kick-off, Jota’s children are expected to walk onto the pitch as ball boys. The match brings together the two clubs the Portuguese international represented during his professional career.
This encounter will be Liverpool and Wolves’ first meeting since July. Jota died in a tragic car accident in north-western Spain while on his way to Liverpool for pre-season preparations. His brother, André Silva, also lost his life in the crash. The incident occurred just days after Jota married his long-time partner, prompting widespread mourning and tributes from across the football world. In response, Liverpool chose to retire his number 20 shirt, which he wore throughout his spell at the club, as a lasting mark of respect.
During the current season, Jota’s family were present at Liverpool’s opening match against Bournemouth as well as Wolves’ opening fixture against Manchester City. On both occasions, fans from both clubs paid tribute to the late striker, showing unity and remembrance through various gestures.
