The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria three points and three goals due to Libya’s forfeiture in their recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe had previously announced an investigation into the incident, affirming CAF’s commitment to fair play and sportsmanship in African football.
In a statement on Saturday, CAF Disciplinary Board Chairperson Ousmane Kane confirmed the decision, stating that the points were granted to Nigeria following the findings of a disciplinary committee established to review the situation involving the Libyan and Nigerian senior men’s teams.
Additionally, CAF’s Disciplinary Board imposed a fine on the Libyan Football Federation over the Super Eagles’ ordeal.
The committee consisted of five members: Ousmane Kane (Senegal) as Chairperson, Njeri Onyango (Kenya) as Vice-Chairperson, and members Felix Golbassia (Chad), Patrick Shale (Lesotho), and Norman Arendse (South Africa).
