JUST IN: Manchester United sack manager Ten Hag
Manchester United have dismissed manager Erik ten Hag following a disappointing start to the season.
Ten Hag’s final game was Sunday’s 2-1 loss to West Ham, leaving United 14th in the Premier League with only three wins from their first nine matches.
In the Europa League, the team sits 21st out of 36, having drawn all three of their opening games.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been appointed interim manager.
The decision was conveyed to Ten Hag by the club’s board on Monday morning, less than a day after the West Ham defeat at London Stadium.
This follows a brief period of optimism in May when United extended Ten Hag’s contract after their FA Cup final win against Manchester City.
However, three months later, he departs amid one of United’s worst starts to a Premier League season.
