Juventus mandated to settle Cristiano Ronaldo’s £8.3m unpaid wages
An Italian court has ruled that Juventus must compensate Cristiano Ronaldo with £8.3 million in unpaid wages.
During the 2020-2021 season, Ronaldo, aged 39, agreed to defer his wages when football activities in Italy were halted due to the Covid pandemic.
Ronaldo, the Portuguese footballer, had asserted that his former club owed him over £17 million.
According to the Court of Arbitration, the club is obligated to remunerate Ronaldo with the amount he would have received after taxes and other deductions.
Having spent three seasons with Juventus from 2018 to 2021, Ronaldo contributed to their success in securing two Serie A titles.
He subsequently departed for his second stint with Manchester United, and after 16 months at Old Trafford, he joined Saudi club Al-Nassr.
Renowned as a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, an accolade bestowed upon the world’s best player, Ronaldo was recognized by Forbes, the American business magazine, as the highest-paid sportsman globally in 2023, with earnings totaling £109 million.
