Juventus sack boss Motta, appoint Tudor as successor

Juventus have dismissed manager Thiago Motta after just nine months in charge, appointing Croatian Igor Tudor as his replacement.

Motta, a 42-year-old former Italy international, leaves the 36-time Serie A champions sitting fifth in the league, one point outside the Champions League qualification spots. His final match ended in a 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina last weekend, following a 4-0 home loss to Atalanta the week before.

Under Motta, Juventus were also eliminated from the Champions League play-off round by PSV Eindhoven and knocked out of the Coppa Italia, a competition they won last season.

Tudor, a former midfielder, made over 150 appearances for Juventus between 1998 and 2007. He began his managerial career with Hajduk Split in 2013 and has since managed clubs such as Galatasaray, Udinese, Verona, and Marseille. Most recently, he had a three-month stint at Lazio at the end of last season.

Tudor’s first game in charge will be a Serie A home match against Genoa on Saturday.
