Kane scores as Bayern Munich whip Bochum

Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga’s top spot with a commanding win over bottom-placed Bochum.

Michael Olise set the tone, netting a 20-yard free-kick over the wall after 15 minutes, becoming only the second Bayern player after Harry Kane to score five goals in his first five Bundesliga away games for the club.

Jamal Musiala doubled the lead by latching onto Joshua Kimmich’s chipped free-kick, sneaking behind the Bochum defense to head past goalkeeper Patrick Drewes at the near post.

After halftime, Kane struck his ninth league goal of the season, firing Musiala’s pass into the roof of the net.

Vincent Kompany’s squad showed resilience after their midweek Champions League loss to Barcelona, as Leroy Sane curled in a beautiful shot from the edge of the area, increasing Bayern’s dominance.

Kingsley Coman saw an effort ruled out for offside but redeemed himself with a curled shot that hit the bar and bounced in.

Drewes made crucial saves, denying substitutes Thomas Muller and Mathys Tel from adding to the scoreline, yet Bayern remained overwhelming for Bochum, who now have one point from eight games.

Bochum’s chances were few; Moritz Broschinski’s shot was deflected for a corner by Dayot Upamecano, and Erhan Masovic’s header missed wide.

Following a 3-1 loss to Hoffenheim last weekend, Bochum parted ways with head coach Peter Zeidler, appointed in June, and sporting director Marc Lettau.
