Knight rescues point for Bristol City at Swansea
Jason Knight’s powerful header secured a draw for Bristol City in a thrilling, end-to-end Championship clash against Swansea City.
Swansea took an early lead when Ben Cabango volleyed home from a corner, and despite numerous chances at both ends, no further goals were scored before halftime.
Bristol City’s Sinclair Armstrong hit the post, while Swansea’s Ollie Cooper did the same. Armstrong was also denied early in the second half by a fine save from Lawrence Vigouroux.
Bristol City increased the pressure and were eventually rewarded in the 76th minute when Knight headed in from Scott Twine’s corner.
The result moved Swansea up to ninth in the Championship, two points shy of the play-off spots, while Bristol City rose to 14th.
Despite challenging conditions with driving rain and strong winds, the match was an engaging encounter between two attack-focused teams.
The game began at a high tempo, with chances on both sides.
Twine’s close-range volley was expertly tipped over by Vigouroux, and Swansea’s Zan Vipotnik narrowly missed with a similar effort before Cabango’s goal from Eom Ji-sung’s inswinging corner.
Bristol City nearly equalized immediately, but Armstrong’s effort hit the post. Swansea then hit the woodwork again when Cooper’s block sent the ball trickling toward the post.
More chances followed before the break, with Max O’Leary saving Goncalo Franco’s powerful strike inside the box.
In the second half, Bristol City began to dominate, with Armstrong thwarted by Vigouroux once again.
Twine’s free-kick was also saved, but the visitors kept pushing and were eventually rewarded when Knight powered home a header.
Substitute Mark Sykes almost gave Bristol City the lead moments later, but his header was saved by Vigouroux.
Although Swansea had the upper hand in the first half, they had to hold on in the second, with the draw being a fair reflection of an exciting and well-balanced contest.
