La Liga: Bellingham holds positive talks with Real Madrid over new deal
England midfielder Jude Bellingham has held positive talks with Real Madrid over a new contract that could extend his stay at the Spanish club until 2031.
According to BBC Sport on Friday, the 23-year-old has just over two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal, although reports in Spain suggest a potential extension could secure his long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 for €103m (£88.5m) and has scored 49 goals in 152 appearances for the Spanish giants.
The England international enjoyed an impressive debut season, netting 19 goals and providing six assists in 28 La Liga appearances as Real Madrid won the league title and the UEFA Champions League.
However, his goal contributions declined in subsequent campaigns, with nine goals and eight assists in the league during the 2024-25 season. He recorded six goals and four assists in the 2025-26 campaign, which was affected by several injury setbacks.
Despite the decline in his numbers, Bellingham has remained an important figure in Real Madrid’s midfield, with his creativity, work rate and tactical flexibility contributing to the team.
He has also made a promising start to the 2026-27 season, registering three goals and three assists in nine matches under manager Jose Mourinho.
Beyond his attacking contributions, Bellingham’s ability to influence crucial moments has helped establish him as a fan favourite at the Bernabeu.
A contract extension would reflect his importance to the squad and reinforce Real Madrid’s determination to retain one of Europe’s highly rated midfielders for the foreseeable future.
At 23, the England star still has several years ahead of him at the highest level, making a potential renewal an important investment in the club’s domestic and European ambitions.
Bellingham has also strengthened his standing with the England national team. He reportedly scored seven goals at the summer World Cup, where England finished third, and was named the national team’s men’s player of the year.
Although a new deal has yet to be confirmed, the positive discussions indicate that both parties are open to continuing their partnership, potentially keeping Bellingham at Real Madrid until 2031.
