Barcelona midfielder Rodri has disclosed details of his conversation with Real Madrid manager José Mourinho before deciding to join the Spanish giants’ LaLiga rivals.
Speaking to COPE, Rodri revealed that Mourinho was keen to sign him for Real Madrid and spoke to him about his football philosophy and tactical plans.
The midfielder admitted that Mourinho’s approach appealed to him and made his eventual decision a difficult one.
“Real Madrid tried strongly. José Mourinho shared with me his enthusiasm to get me, his football idea… it attracted me a lot; he’s a top coach,” Rodri said.
Despite Mourinho’s efforts, Rodri eventually chose to leave Manchester City for Barcelona in a £65.4 million transfer, with the midfielder explaining that sporting considerations influenced his decision.
