Lazio has appointed Croatian Igor Tudor as their new manager following the resignation of Maurizio Sarri.

Sarri, aged 65, resigned from his position on Wednesday following a string of five defeats in six games.

Assistant coach Giovanni Martusciello assumed temporary charge for Saturday’s 3-2 victory against Frosinone.

Tudor, aged 45, spent the previous season with Marseille, securing a third-place finish in Ligue 1, and has previously managed Udinese and Hellas Verona in Serie A.

He also boasts experience as a player in the Italian top flight, having represented Juventus from 1998 to 2007.

Tudor’s managerial debut for Lazio is scheduled for March 30th, when they host Juventus. Currently placed ninth in Serie A, Lazio is trailing by four points from the European qualifying positions.

Additionally, they will confront Juventus in the two-legged semi-finals of the Italian Cup next month.
